This is the website of the Tom Levitt, who has worked as a journalist and editor at the Guardian, the Ecologist and Farmers Guardian. I am now a freelance journalist and associate researcher for the RSA’s Food, Farming and Countryside Commission. I am also researching a report for The Climate Coalition on the future of fruit and vegetable production in the UK.
I have an MSc in Food Policy (with distinction) from City University and was awarded a Nuffield Farming Scholarship for 2017/18 to research the future of dairy. My final report emphasised the importance of brands (See my op-ed published by Farmers Weekly) for the future viability of the category.
I am a director of the Oxford Farming Conference and on the advisory board for Foodsource, an initiative run by the Food Climate Research Network (FCRN) at Oxford University’s Environmental Change Institute.
I have been a guest talking about food trends and dairy on BBC Countryfile, produced programmes for Farm Radio, been a regular chair for Guardian and public events, including the Edinburgh Science Festival and Oxford Real Farming Conference and a guest on BBC Radio and BBC World Service. I am a guest lecturer for the Centre for Alternative Technology. And have spoken about the future of dairy at the Oxford Farming, Nuffield, Dairy Tech and Semex conferences.
You can find my journalism on the Guardian, CNN, chinadialogue, Chinafile, Country Life, Earth Island Journal, Farmers Guardian, Farmers Weekly, Huffington Post, Independent, Like The Wind Magazine, The New Agriculturalist, Sustainable Food Trust, Resurgence magazine and Vice.
